Providence St. Joseph among top hospitals

MEDIA DISTRICT WEST -- Providence St. Joseph Medical Center has been

recognized as one of 100 top regional hospitals in the country, hospital

officials announced.

Providence was the recipient of the 1999 100 Top Hospitals: Regional

Benchmarks for Success award. The awards, which are given out by HCIA and

the Health Network, stemmed from a national study that evaluated

hospitals on the basis of clinical, operational and financial

performance.

"We are very pleased that we have been recognized for our effort. It

is also a recognition of our employees and volunteers," said Georgianne

Jessen, chief executive officer for Providence Health Systems, San

Fernando Valley service area.

HCIA collects health care information for health insurance companies

and pharmaceutical manufacturers. The Health Network is a cable

television and Internet site that provides health information and medical

advice.
