CIVIC CENTER -- The jury trial for a retired Burbank police officer

suspected of threatening a neighbor with a gun was continued until next

month.

Burbank Municipal Court Judge Rand Rubin agreed Tuesday to delay the

trial at the request of Albert Madrid's attorney, Robert Walters. Madrid

did not appear in court Tuesday morning with Walters.

The trial is scheduled for April 18 in municipal court.

Walters requested the extension because he plans to submit an

extensive discovery request to the city attorney's office, which is

prosecuting the case. A discovery request entails depositions and other

information gathered in preparation for trial to which both parties are

permitted access.

Walters told Rubin he felt the city attorney's office would need

additional time to gather the information.

Madrid was charged Dec. 1 with two misdemeanor counts stemming from

the alleged Nov. 1 confrontation.
