Glendale College opens

'Ten Minute Wonders'

GLENDALE -- Works of new and not-so-new playwrights will be performed

in "Ten Minute Wonders," produced by the Glendale Community College

Theatre Arts Department. The production opens Thursday.

The intimate Studio Theatre is the backdrop for these

student-directed, 10-minute works by established playwrights Harold

Pinter, Jane Martin and Craig Lucas, by pros such as Leigh Podgorski,

Amlin Gray and Alan Brooks, and by grad students Todd Kulczyk, Kristina

Leach and Brian Dembkoski.

Performances are at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and May

11, 12 and 13. Matinees are at 2 p.m. on Sunday and May 14.

Admission is $7 and $5 for students and seniors. The group rate for 10

or more is $3. Reserve tickets by calling 240-1000, ext. 5618. The

college is at 1500 N. Verdugo Road, Glendale.

Due to limited seating, reservations are strongly recommended. There

will be no late seating for this production.

Children's theater produces

'Sound of Music'

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE -- Steele Productions Children's Theater will

produce "The Sound of Music" at 7 p.m. Thursday and 8 p.m. Friday, at the

La Canada High School Auditorium, 4463 Oak Grove Drive, La Canada

Flintridge.

Director Aaron Steele's company provides live theater experience for

children ages 6 to 18.

Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door. For tickets, call

952-3214. A portion of the ticket proceeds will be donated to The La

Canada Flintridge Educational Foundation.

The cast includes La Canada Flintridge students Emily Wynne-Hughes,

Scott Hurst, Tricia Wolff, Kate Wooldridge, Niko Turko, Matt Ruffalo,

Carly Naples, Katherine Chapman, Kate Brown, Jessica Springer, Erin

Jamison, Robin Jamison, Holly Jamison, Nicole Cecchini, Alicia Uplegraft,

Colin La Bran-Boyd and Wesley page and from Glendale Lilianna Myers and

David Owen.

Neon sculpture at

Brand Library galleries

GLENDALE -- Richard Ankrom's neon sculpture exhibit continues at Brand

Library Art Galleries through May 26.

Titled "Altar to Miss Velvet," the works vary from neon roses to

space-age laser guns. One piece is done in infrared and must be viewed on

a special monitor.

Today the artist will discuss his works at 2 p.m. in the gallery.

The galleries are in Brand Park, 1601 W. Mountain St., Glendale. Hours

are 1 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday; 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday; and 1 to 5

p.m. Friday and Saturday. Admission is free. For information, call
