Top horse riders from the western states will compete in the $35,000

Memorial Day Classic Grand Prix Monday at the Los Angeles Equestrian

Center in Burbank.

Among those vying in the Olympic-style jumping event is Richard

Spooner of Burbank. He is the leading rider for the Pacific Coast Horse

Show Assn., said Regina Antonioli, director of marketing for the grand

prix.

"He is a bold and aggressive rider who always seems to be in tune with

the horse," she said of Spooner.

A horse show runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, Sunday and Monday and

includes the $5,000 Junior/Amateur Owner Jumper Classic. The grand prix

event begins at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the equestrian center, 480 Riverside

Drive, Burbank.

Admission is $12, $10 for seniors and children under 6. For

'Music Man' marches into The Alex Theatre

"The Music Man," a musical by Meredith Willson, will be presented by

Music Theatre of Southern California at 2 and 8 p.m. today and 2 and 7

p.m. Sunday at The Alex Theatre in Glendale.

'Playhouse Disney' characters stop at Galleria

Disney Channel and Charter Communications will sponsor "Playhouse

Disney -- Live" a special live event featuring characters from the show

today and Sunday at the Glendale Galleria.

There will be singing, dancing, storytelling and creative play

centering around the theme of parties. Hosts will be Tony and Vivian from

"Out of the Box."

Three 15-minute live shows will be performed daily at 1 p.m., 3 p.m.

and 5 p.m. Between performances, children can take part in "Circle Time"

"King and I"

at Centre Theatre

Rodgers and Hammerstein's "The King and I," the inspiring tale of an

unlikely love between a king and a schoolteacher, is playing at Glendale

Centre Theatre through July 8.

Show times are 8 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays and 3 p.m.

Saturdays.
