Kiwanis and BUMP acting like Real Friends

The Burbank Kiwanis and the Burbank United Methodist Players (BUMP)

invite your support of a fund-raising concert, Real Friends, to be held

at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 11 in the sanctuary of the Burbank First United

Methodist Church, 700 N. Glenoaks Blvd.

All proceeds will benefit the brother, wife and son of Burbank Kiwanis

member Brooks Gardner. Kim Gardner, who lives in Illinois, has been

battling cancer for seven years. His wife has now taken a leave of

absence from her job to care for her husband.

A suggested donation of $15 includes the concert, a dessert reception

and one chance in a drawing for some great prizes.

along with a number where you can be reached. Tickets are also available

at the church office.

At a recent meeting of the Burbank Kiwanis, the club recognized and

honored several Burbank teachers. According to Teacher Recognition

Chairman Tom Cotrel, awards were presented to Lois Futrell, George

Washington Elementary; Ruth Mottern, Emerson Elementary; Angela D'Mello,

William McKinley Elementary; Jill Sullivan, John Burroughs High School;

Ellen Kessler, Jordan Middle School; and Martha Hankins, Robert Louis

Stevenson Elementary.

Congratulations to all of these fine educators.

Four $750 scholarships will be presented to deserving Burbank high

school graduates when they start college in the fall.

The following members will serve as the club's elected officers for

the next year: Chuck Lilly, president; Beverly Phelps, Bruce Lilly,

Donnie Smith, Chuck Johnson and Joe Terranova, club directors; Wynne

Ritch, first vice president; Craig Adams, second vice president; Gene

Boyd, secretary; and Tom Engman, treasurer.

The Providence High School Key Club recently held a fundraiser at

Shakey's Pizza in Burbank. A percentage of the food sales benefited the

club.

Zonta Club of Burbank initiated and welcomed four new members into the

club: J. J. Weston, Brenda Lantieri, DeAnn Archer and Grace Farenbaugh.

The initiation took place at the club's annual general meeting at the

Castaway Restaurant.

At the same meeting, officers for the coming club year were installed.

Julie Modglin will serve a second term as president; Nickie Bonner, first

vice president; Elaine Paonessa, second vice president and membership

chairwoman; Holly Zinman, recording secretary; Marilyn Mauzey, treasurer;

and Lisa Matzner, corresponding secretary. Directors include Mary Lou
