CIVIC CENTER -- After a one-week vacation, the City Council will begin

its meetings a half hour earlier.

It has become tradition in City Hall for the mayor to pick two

Tuesdays during the summer months for a break from city business,

officials said. With this tradition in mind, Mayor Bill Wiggins drew the

curtain on the Aug. 22 meeting. It was the second session canceled this

summer.

"The mayor selects two dark days in the summer," City Clerk Judie

Sarquiz said.

The council has taken a hiatus for three scheduled sessions this year,

including the Fourth of July and New Year's holidays.

The council will meet next at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at City Hall, 275 E.

Olive Ave.

On May 23, the council approved bumping the meeting up a half an hour

to streamline proceedings that occasionally last beyond midnight.
