BURBANK -- Organizers of the Burbank International Children's Film

Festival expect great things from the event the first time out.

With a full schedule of movies that began showing Friday night and

will continue through Oct. 19, the festival is generating a buzz in

Burbank and Hollywood.

"This has become more than a film festival," festival spokeswoman

Carole Myers said. "It really is a celebration of children."

Myers said about 100,000 visitors are expected during the weeklong

event, headquartered at the Media City Center mall.

The festival, which will cost about $400,000 to put on, will feature

more than 60 feature-length and short films geared to children. More than

50 scripts also will be judged.

FESTIVAL SCHEDULE

TODAY: Ten screenings at AMC 8 Theaters between 11:15 a.m. and 9 p.m.

SUNDAY: Nine screenings between 11 a.m. and 8:15 p.m.

MONDAY: Nickelodeon animation studio tour from 1 to 3 p.m.

Reservations required.

Six screenings between 3 and 7:30 p.m.

TUESDAY: Six screenings between 3 and 8:30 p.m.

WEDNESDAY: Six screenings between 3 and 8:30 p.m.

THURSDAY: Six screenings between 3 and 8 p.m.

Closing-night reception from 6 to 8 p.m. at AMC 8 Theatres

FRIDAY: Awards dinner at 6:30 p.m. at Burbank Airport Hilton
