GCC starts playing with its 'Backswing'

GLENDALE -- "Backswing," written by Samuel Dyches and presented by the

Glendale Community College Theatre Arts Department, opens Thursday in the

campus Studio Theatre.

The original play was a finalist in Region VIII of the 1999 Kennedy

Center American College Theatre Festival. The life of a young man trying

to become the next handball champion at a New York City park is

complicated by his brother's return home from prison.


GCC Theatre Arts Department chairman Ken Gray is the director. The

play has adult language and subject matter.

Performances are at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and Nov. 9, 10,

11, 16, 17 and 18. Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. Nov. 12 and 19.

Admission is $7, $5 for students and seniors. The group rate for 10 or

more is $3. Reserve tickets by calling 240-1000, ext. 5618.

Seats are limited, so reservations are recommended. There will be no

late seating for this production.
