November 22, 2000

BURBANK -- Local firefighters are hoping to start a fire in people's

hearts with the "Spark of Love" toy drive for needy children.

Just in time for the holidays, the Burbank Fire Department will

collect new, unwrapped toys, sports equipment and clothes for kids around

the city. More than 2,600 toys were gathered last year and fire inspector

Kelly Chulick wants to top that this year.

"You're not just giving something to make yourself feel good," he

said. "You're making a child feel happy and wanted."

For even more fun, firefighters will bring their hooks and ladders and

collect toys at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at the MetroLink Station, 3750 Empire

Ave., when Santa and the "Holiday Toy Express 2000" roll in.

All the toys will be delivered to the Burbank Temporary Aid Center for

distribution Christmas Day.

Toys may be dropped off at any fire station from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

through Dec. 24.
