Las Floristas launches plans

for floral headdress ball

Las Floristas members and guests celebrated the preview party at the

R.M.S. Queen Mary in Long Beach harbor Feb. 3 in anticipation of the 63rd

annual Floral Headdress Ball, "Passport Around the World," planned for

April 20.

Proceeds benefit the Las Floristas Children's Charities at Rancho Los

Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, for which Las Floristas has

already raised more than $5.5 million.

The ball preview party theme, "A Step Back in Time," was appropriate

because Las Floristas' founding in 1938 and the Queen Mary's maiden

voyage in 1934 were just a few years apart.

During the preview party, mannequins were matched with their designer

teams, who will create their 5-by-5-foot floral headpieces for the spring

ball at Merv Griffin's Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

Burbank designers competing for the second year are Vynss and Lisa

Gonzales. They were matched with Susan Dilday of Long Beach. The

designers own Creations from the Heart in Burbank. Vynss has designed for

Hollywood's elite in the TV, motion picture and music industries. They

won two sweepstakes awards in Las Floristas' floral display competitions

in previous years. Lisa is an associate equity trader. They have been

married for 11 years and have three sons, Anthony, Isaac and Elijah.

Former Burbank resident mannequin Sandy Wessel of Yorba Linda has been

matched with design team Modesto Busto and Eric Railer of Fountain

Valley. Members attending the preview party were Ted Flynn and Thomas

and Maggie Simms, all of Toluca Lake, and Julie Pejsa of La Canada

Flintridge.
