HILLSIDE DISTRICT -- Talk about being asleep at the wheel.

A Texas man arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of driving

under the influence of an intoxicant apparently nodded off while driving

his car, police said.

Ralph Addington, 50, was behind the wheel of his late-model Ford

Mustang when Burbank police officers spotted the car facing westbound on

Harvard Road near 3rd Street about 5:40 a.m., Burbank Police Sgt. John

Dilibert said.

"It looks like he made the turn off of Glenoaks [Boulevard] onto

Harvard and just stalled or stopped," Dilibert said. "The gentleman was

asleep behind the wheel."

Officers were on routine patrol near the intersection of Magnolia and

Glenoaks boulevards when a passing bicyclist told them that a car

appeared to have stalled in the middle of Harvard Road, Dilibert said.

The car was still running and was in gear when officers decided to get

a closer look, woke the man from his slumber, gave him a field sobriety

test and took him into custody, Dilibert said.
