Golden Rule exemplified

April 18, 2001

NORTHWEST DISTRICT -- Students from Magnolia Park School decided to

show children at a local family center that someone was thinking about

them.

They gathered candy, juice, pudding, oatmeal, cookies, shampoo and

toothpaste and made Easter baskets that were delivered to the children

and families staying at the Burbank Temporary Aid Center.

Edward Stapleton, coordinator at the center, said what touched him

most about the baskets was that children could step out from their own

situations and feel compassion for others less fortunate.

"It impresses me when people can stop thinking about their own pain

and concentrate on others," said Stapleton, who has been working at the

center for a year. "It is great to know people who are in hard times

themselves can think about other people."

The Burbank Temporary Aid Center helps anyone in need by providing

showers, clothing and food twice a week.

Magnolia Park students were able to put the baskets together with

profits from the school store, donations from local businesses and their

own donations, Stapleton said.

The Burbank Temporary Aid Center is at 1304 W. Burbank Blvd. For more
