PANORAMA CITY -- An 18-year-old Panorama City man who police believe

is involved with gangs and vandalism in Burbank jumped out of a two-story

window Friday to avoid authorities, police said.

Joe Zavala was arrested on suspicion of vandalism, but not before

hurting his ankle jumping out of an apartment-building window, Burbank

Sgt. Bill Taylor said.

Zavala allegedly was involved in recent incidents of vandalism, Taylor

said. Police went to a residence in the 8700 block of Burnette Street in

Panorama City with an arrest warrant for Zavala.

When police entered the residence, an officer stationed in the back of

the apartment building saw Zavala jump out the window, Taylor said.

Although he was hurt, he still tried to run but was detained and

arrested, Taylor said.

Zavala was taken to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center for pain in

his ankle, but was later released and booked.
