BURBANK -- City Council members appointed new members to the city's
boards, commissions and committees after voting for their choices by
raising hands Tuesday night during the regular council meeting.
Appointments included members of the Park, Recreation and Community
Services Board, Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority Commission,
Planning Board, Police Commission, Traffic and Transportation Committee,
Civic Pride Committee, Board of Library Trustees, Board of Building and
Fire Code Appeals, Youth Endowment Services Fund Advisory Committee,
Burbank Water and Power Board, Transportation Commission, Civil Service
Board and Landlord-Tenant Commission.
June 1 is the expiration date for terms of the many of the current
board and commission members.
Councilman David Laurell said familiarity with the applicants is a
consideration when he's choosing board, commission and committee members,
but that dedication to the job, qualifications and credentials also are
important.
"Council members should be able to pick up the phone and call members,
and vice versa," he said. "But for example, I've never met Emily
Gabel-Luddy, who was appointed to the Planning Board. I appointed her
because she had stellar qualifications for the position."
Appointed members serve without compensation from the city and cannot
serve on more than one board, commission or committee.
With the exception of the Traffic and Transportation Committee and
Civic Pride Committee members, who serve two-year terms, all other board,
commissions and committee members' terms last four years.
