June 06, 2001

HILLSIDE DISTRICT -- Police are investigating a report of the

attempted murder Friday of a business owner who was taken to County-USC

Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The 34-year-old Glendale man, who owns Gavik Import/Export, did not

call police or go directly to the hospital, Burbank Sgt. Bill Taylor

said. Hospital officials reported the incident.

"This will be a difficult case to investigate because of the multiple

suspects and the delay in reporting," Taylor said.

From his hospital bed, the man told police that two men entered his

empty store, at 610 N. Glenoaks Blvd., Friday evening and asked about

sending a package. The three men argued. After refusing to leave, one

suspect allegedly hit the business owner in the back of the head with a

small black semiautomatic gun, police said.

The suspects fired twice at the victim from only a few feet away,

hitting the man once in the leg, Taylor said. The man's wife eventually

took him to the hospital, police said.
