Zonta makes changes to Woman of the Year

October 10, 2001

BURBANK -- Organizers of the Woman of the Year project have made a few

changes this year to selecting the winner.

Zonta Club of Burbank Area has discontinued the categorical awards,

which the group thought were too limiting, said Marilyn Mauzey,

chairwoman. A Woman of the Year will be chosen from all the women

nominated, and qualifications will expand.

"We didn't want to limit the competition to straight volunteerism,"

she said. "We're looking for a woman who is accomplished at being a wife

and mother, a business woman and being able to do volunteer work."

Accomplishments will not be limited to one year.

Judges are Capt. Brenda Smith, of the Burbank Salvation Army; Cheryl

Wiliams Khoury, PTA volunteer; and Terri Campbell, of the American Red

Cross, Burbank Chapter.

The luncheon will begin with a social hour at 11 a.m. Nov. 3 at The

Castaway, 1250 Harvard Road.

Tickets are $35, and reservations can be made by calling Lee Bellis at

845-4560. Deadline for reservations is Nov. 1.
