Bret Harte Elementary gives to Red Cross

NORTHWEST DISTRICT -- Bret Harte Associated Student Body members

helped raise more than $1,400 to aid disaster relief efforts on the East

Coast.

The students also collected teddy bears that will be sent to children

of the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Special collection cans were placed around the school for one week,

and all funds raised were given to the American Red Cross.

"We had students come out and ask how they could help. It's really

important to learn to help people," said student body president Brittney

Pippert, 13.
