Letter -- Eden Rosen

October 20, 2001

I had to comment regarding this article, "Delivering the mail is

complicated," Aug. 22. I really do not agree with David Mazer, spokesman

for the Southern California region of the U.S. Postal Service, regarding

his statements concerning the post office.

Several times, our carrier delivered mail in the dark, at 6:30 p.m. I

have received misdirected mail in the four years I have lived at this one

address.

Three years after I moved into this apartment, the previous occupants

were still getting mail at the address. Instead of tagging it, the

carriers just put it in the box. Don't the carriers read the names on the

envelopes?

The post office lost four pieces of mail in five months. One piece was

going from Burbank to Burbank, a mere three miles away.

Taking the postal issue a few steps further, the important issues are

not if someone wears a tie or asks me if I need to buy anything else. The

important issues are: Where is my mail going? Will it be delivered on

time and in good condition?

I've had several pieces of mail damaged. There is not just one

dissatisfied customer.

I have too much on my plate right now. Otherwise, I would be right

there with Talbert Kanigher leading the fight for better mail delivery

and better customer service.
