all five council members unanimously agreed to oppose the plan hatched by
Los Angeles Superior Court officials in order to streamline the court
system.
If Burbank can keep an added criminal layer out of the city, that's
one big gain for the city and its residents.

WHEN IS A NAME JUST A NAME?
When Glendale built the Glendale Galleria, they didn't call it the
Jewel City Mall. They called it the Glendale Galleria, for Glendale, the
name of the city.
When Burbank built the mall in the heart of the city, they didn't call
it the Burbank Mall. They called it Media City Center. What the heck does
that mean? No wonder the place is a ghost town -- out-of-town shoppers
might not even be aware what it is. Maybe that's why the now-defunct
Golden Mall was such a sinkhole for profits.
And now there's the proposed Burbank Media Center, which has nothing
to do with media. Sure, there might be a a gospel church, retail
businesses, a health club and a child-care facility, but no media, per
se.
Creativity's fine, but it's OK to call something what it is, where it
is.

GUARDS POSTED AT THE AIRPORT
Since Sept. 11, the nation's officials have been quick to react
defensively in order to protect the country and citizens. One such
precautionary measure has been to post National Guard troops at airports,
including the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport.
While it's comforting to know that soldiers are keeping an eye on all
ports of entry and departure into our nation's cities, it's also
discomforting to realize the nation needs to take this guarded step.
