Burroughs vs. Valencia
* WHEN: 7:30 p.m. Friday.
* WHERE: Canyon High.
* RECORDS: The Indians are 4-3, 1-2 in league; the Vikings are 6-2,
2-1.
* LAST WEEK: Burroughs lost to Hart 49-6; Valencia defeated Burbank,
49-24.
* OUTLOOK: Burroughs realize that it must defeat the Vikings -- and
Burbank High in the final Foothill League game next week -- if if hopes
to secure a CIF Southern Section playoff berth. Unfortunately, the
Indians have to deal with a tough Valencia team. Valencia is paced by
running back Charles Burnley, who gained 140 yards last week. The Indians
have had a tough time in league after opening almost three weeks ago with
a win against Canyon. In the last two games -- against Saugus and Hart --
Burroughs has given up 90 points in two losses.
* SOMETHING INTERESTING: Valencia is ranked No. 5 in CIF Southern
Section Division III.
Burbank vs. Saugus
* WHEN: 7 p.m. Friday.
* WHERE: Memorial Field (Burroughs High).
* RECORDS: The Bulldogs are 1-7, 0-3 in league; the Centurions are
5-3, 2-1.
* LAST WEEK: Burbank lost to Valencia, 49-24; Saugus defeated Canyon,
29-0.
* OUTLOOK: The Bulldogs have had good success in the early going of
Foothill League games, only to falter down the stretch. Any mistakes
could be costly against a very good Saugus team. The Centurions are led
by quarterback Chris Alheim and running back Brandon McCullough. If the
Saugus offense gets a chance to get rolling, it could be a long night for
the Bulldogs.
* SOMETHING INTERESTING: Burbank running back Oscar Flores gained 100
yards in last week's loss.
