Jim Rabe is chairman of Boy Scout auction

Jim Rabe, a longtime volunteer in Scouting, is the chairman for the

28th annual Big Strike Auction Dinner Party on March 8 at the Burbank

The event is the major fund-raiser for the Verdugo Hills Council of

the Boys Scouts of America, which draws members from Burbank, Glendale,

La Canada Flintridge, La Crescenta, Montrose, Sunland, Tujunga and North

Hollywood.

He has selected "A Knight for Scouting" as the theme, reminiscent of

the Medieval Knights of the Round Table.

"Just as in Scouting, such young men developed skills and a code of

honor as squires before advancing to knighthood and positions of

leadership within their community," Rabe said.

Rabe brings to this position many years of experience as a Cub and Boy

Scout himself and later as an adult leader. He has also served as

Foothill District chairman and a member of the Council Board and

Executive Committee.

His father was active in Scouting and his sons are successful Scouts,

Ken as an Eagle Scout and Scott as a Life Scout.

Backing up the auction chairman are committee members Harriet Hammond,

Bob and Joan Nellis, Dorraine and Harvey Miesse, Michael Deaktor, Sam and

Kathy Engel, Sue and Gary Keyes, Deb Leishman, Paul Lacayo, Joe Ungaro,

Council Executive Director Andrew Messer, Wynne Ritch, Jack Kabateck,

Steve Lujan, Pat Rabe and Bill James.

It's an important once-a-year, fun-filled fund-raiser for the council

that attracts families and friends, Messer said.

"All proceeds from this highly successful dinner with its extensive

live and silent auction directly benefit the many Boy Scout youth

programs and activities during the year," he said.

Reservations can be secured at $100 each for the complete dinner with

entertainment and many auction items by calling the council office at

243-6282, ext. 117.
