BURBANK -- School safety, and what the city is doing to maintain it,

will be discussed at a public meeting Thursday.

Burbank Police Chief Thomas Hoefel and School Safety Coordinator

Marissa Rosoff will be among the speakers to talk about police response

and training, possible campus threats and how to report suspicious

activity.

The event, called "Safety in the Burbank Schools -- a Proactive

Approach," will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Burbank

Library, 110 N. Glenoaks Blvd. It is sponsored by the Burbank Noon Rotary

Club.

"Since Columbine in 1999, there has been training and things going on

to help make schools safe but it didn't seem like it was being

communicated to parents," event chairwoman Joan Ortiz said.

It is important that parents know what police and school officials are

doing so they can calm fears their children may have, Ortiz said.

The meeting caters to parents of children going into the sixth and

ninth grades since those are transitional and sometimes worrisome times

for students, Ortiz said.
