Letter -- Wesley Greene

March 20, 2002

I sympathize with Jack Tavares, the owner of Crazy Jack's Country Bar

and Grill. He was fined for smoking in his own restaurant. The long arm

of government sometimes seems oppressive.

But, as an ex-smoker of many years, I'm happy at the law banning

smoking in public buildings. There is almost no way for a smoker not to

irritate a nonsmoker when he lights up. Invariably, smoke finds its way

throughout the environment.

Disadvantages to smoking have been mentioned enough times so we all

have them memorized.

Quality of life has improved for the nonsmoker with the new

restrictions. Hopefully, the smoker will join the rest of us and

celebrate the cleaner air.
