Pianist Robert Thies, winner of Russia's prestigious Prokofiev

Competition, will make his Pasadena Symphony debut performing Dohnanyi's

popular Variations on a Nursery Tune on at 8 tonight at the Pasadena

Civic Auditorium.

Music Director Jorge Mester of Montrose will also conduct Rossini's

William Tell Overture and Shastokovich's Symphony No. 15, which quotes the popular Rossini work, among others. Musicologist Nancy Fierro will

present the pre-concert lecture at 7.

Performing in the orchestra will be Burbank resident Peter Doubrovsky

on string bass.

Tickets are available at the box office and range from $10 to $64 and

$5 for children ages 5 to 17. The Pasadena Civic Auditorium is at 300 E.

Green St. in Pasadena.

Doll Show and Sale

Jewel City Doll Club will sponsor its 24th annual Doll Show and Sale

from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the Glendale Civic Auditorium, 1401

Verdugo Road.

There will be antique and collectible dolls and accessories, paper

dolls, old toys, bears, miniatures and related books.

Participants can have their picture taken for free with their favorite

doll or dolls.

There will be free doll identification provided by the doll club's

members.

Special guest is Patricia Schoonmaker, noted doll book author.

Colony's 'Side Show'

extended to April 20

The Colony Theatre Company has extended the Broadway musical "Side

Show" until April 20 and added two more performances 8 p.m. Thursday,

April 18, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 21, at the Burbank Center Stage. There

will be no more extensions to the show.

It relates the true story of Daisy and Violet Hilton, twins joined at

the hip, who became the toast of the vaudeville circuit during the

Depression. Misty Cotton and Julie Dixon Jackson star as the twins.

The role of Jake will be played by James Black for the performances of

the extension only. Black was most recently seen as Jim in Deaf West's

award-winning production of "Big River" and in Reprise's production of

"Hair."

Show times during the extention are 8 p.m. today, Thursday, Friday and

April 20 and 2 p.m. April 21. Tickets range from $25 to $31, and can be

reserved by calling 558-7000. The Colony Theatre Company makes its home

at the Burbank Center Stage, 555 N. 3rd St.
