Organizers devising a 'divine' breakfast

April 27, 2002

RANCHO DISTRICT -- When his father, Glenn, helped start Burbank's

annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast 29 years ago, Darrell Taylor knew his

father was onto something.

As a teenager it showed him how people apply their faith in God in

their everyday lives, he said.

The younger Taylor, 46, took over his father's volunteer post as the

event organizer two years ago, and finds it particularly timely for the

community to come together at the city's nondenominational Christian

prayer breakfast.

"It's important in light of all that our nation's been through ... "

Taylor said.

With Burbank's new mayor being inducted the day before the breakfast,

the event on Thursday looks to "lift up and support both our local and

national leaders," Taylor said.

While the foundation of the prayer breakfast has its roots in

Christianity, Taylor said people of all faiths are welcome to attend.

The morning will feature a buffet including fruit, sweet rolls, eggs,

bacon, juice and coffee, as well as singing by the Burbank High School

Choir and guest speaker Stephanie Edwards. Edwards has co-hosted the

Tournament of Roses Parade for 22 years and has hosted numerous other

television and radio programs. Event sponsors are the Burbank Kiwanis

Clubs, Rotary Clubs, Master's Men and Magnolia Park Optimists.
