Police join other agencies in local DUI checkpoint

Nine drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the

influence of alcohol Saturday during a DUI checkpoint near the

intersection of Verdugo Drive and Oak Street.

Joining Burbank Police at the "Avoid the 50" task force checkpoint

Saturday were members of the Glendale, Pasadena, Arcadia and South

Pasadena police departments and the California Highway Patrol.

During the checkpoint, 520 vehicles were screened for proper

licensing and evidence of drunken driving.

Along with the drunken- driving arrests, seven drivers were cited

for being unlicensed or driving on a suspended license. Another 14

vehicles were impounded. Officers issued more than 125 citations for

other vehicle code violations and made two felony arrests.
