Carnival comes to Miller Elementary

HILLSIDE DISTRICT -- Parents might have to bail their children out

of jail Saturday if they go to the Joaquin Miller Elementary School

carnival, but the money will be split between the participating

classrooms and the school's booster club.

The jail will be one of several booths at the carnival, which

starts at 11 a.m. on the playground. Other entertainment includes

face painting and a dunk tank. Food will be for sale at the carnival

as well.

Funds raised by the booster club, Team Jaguar, will be used to

send the school's fifth graders to Outdoor Science School at Lake

Arrowhead.

City needs some scary volunteers

BURBANK -- The city is looking for volunteer ghosts and goblins

for the annual Haunted Hike.

Volunteers are needed to play spooky roles, help with children's

activities and create props for the event, which will be from 7 to

9:30 p.m. Oct. 18 and 19 at Stough Canyon Nature Center.

The theme of the hike is "The Dreaded Curse of Echo Canyon."
