Ghoulish good times

It's that time of year again -- the spooky, kooky Halloween season

culminating on Thursday, when witches, goblins and grinning

jack-o'-lanterns come to life for a few brief and scary hours.

Here are some fun events around town for people of all ages during

the days and nights leading up to, and including, Halloween:

* Tonight, Sunday and Halloween: Tim Murphy's home at 425 Orchard

Drive has been turned into a haunted house from 7 to 10 p.m. Visitors will be taken in groups of four to six through various rooms, each

with a scary surprise. The haunted house is not recommended for

children younger than 10. There is no charge, but a donation of money

or canned goods is suggested. Money will go to the Boys & Girls Club

of Burbank, and the canned goods will be given to the Burbank

Temporary Aid Center. For more information, call 557-0116.

* Today: "Shivers and Chills," ghost stories by True Thomas the

Storyteller, is at 10 a.m. in the Burbank Northwest Branch Library,

3323 W. Victory Blvd. These stories are not suitable for children

younger than 7. The event is free. For more information, call

* Today: Tot Halloween Party from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at McCambridge

Recreation Center, 1515 N. Glenoaks Blvd. Festivities include a

carnival with games and prizes, and a costume parade. This event is

for children 2 to 5. For more information, call 238-5378.

* Monday: Joslyn Halloween Hop from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Joslyn

Adult Center, 1301 W. Olive Ave. Prizes will be awarded for best

costumes. For more information, call 238-5353.

* Halloween through Nov. 2: Walk through a movie set replica of

the 1951 version of the sci-fi thriller, "The Thing," from 5 to 10

p.m. at Bob and Kathy Burns' residence, 826 N. Valley St. The movie

is about an alien's rampage at an Arctic research station. Be

prepared for a chilling experience. This free event is not suitable

for young children.

* Halloween: The Missing Children Investigation Center and the

Burbank Masonic Lodge will provide free child fingerprinting and

photographs from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Burbank Foursquare Church Harvest

Festival, 269 E. Providencia Ave. For more information, call

* Halloween: Free Halloween carnivals for elementary school

students from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at McCambridge Recreation Center,

1515 N. Glenoaks Blvd; Olive Recreation Center, 1111 W. Olive Ave.; and VickroyPark, 2300 Monterey Place. The carnivals feature games,

prizes and a costume parade. For more information, call McCambridge

Recreation Center at 238-5378, Olive Recreation Center at 238-5385 or

Vickroy Park at 238-5300.

* Halloween: Middle School Halloween Dance from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at

Verdugo Recreation Center, 3201 W. Verdugo Ave. This event is for

sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders only, and Burbank middle school

I.D. is required. Cost is $5. For more information, call 238-5390.

* Halloween: The Joslyn Adult Center's Swinging Seniors Dance

Club is having a Halloween party beginning at 7 p.m. Prizes will be

awarded for best costumes. Live music provided by the Silver Tones.

Admission is $3 for members and $4 for guests. The center is at 1301
