It took a child to show her Christmas

My 9-year-old grandson, Michael Rufus, taught me the true meaning

of Christmas at 4. It's been five years now, and I have never

forgotten his childish and sincere words.

One year, I took Michael to the mall to do my Christmas shopping.

For years, Christmas to me was gifts, cards, decorations, food, good

clothing and the best of everything one could imagine. At the mall, I

saw parents with their children waiting in long lines for their

pictures to be taken on Santa's lap. I asked Michael, "Would you like

to take a picture sitting on Santa's lap?" He turned to me and asked,

"First, tell me whose birthday it is." I said, "Jesus." To which he

replied, "Then I want to sit on Jesus' lap."

These words from a 4-year-old showed me the true meaning of

Christmas and how easily we get distracted and forget its reason.

This year, I request everyone remember Michael's words and celebrate

Christmas with Jesus in your hearts.

Glendale needs to keep up on airport issues

Glendale Mayor Rafi Manoukian, in regard to the airport terminal

issue, has said he doesn't have all the information available, but

would like to get it. He wants to hear more about what Burbank is

asking of its neighbor city.

Where has he been in recent years? This issue has been beaten to

death, with no resolution in sight. If Glendale and Pasadena want to

be responsible co-owners of the airport, they should keep up to date

on the issues. They should ask their commissioners for information,

considering they're voting on a regular basis.

The real tragedy of the airport issue is that we couldn't buy it

as a sole owner back in the 1970s and deal with the airport

management on a one-on-one basis. The Glendale and Pasadena members

have voted against our interests on numerous occasions. Who hears the

noise from the airplanes landing and taking off? Burbank residents

do. The three cities share other interests and make them work well.

Let's do the same on the airport issue.
