Burbank Cub Scout Pack 225 members showed their respect for nature by
gathering trash in Wildwood Canyon as part of the city's Earth Day
activities.
"The boys were really savvy," Cubmaster John Dlugolecki said.
"They were separating the recyclables."
The group hikes in the canyon, and Dlugolecki said he wants the
boys "to learn to leave places cleaner than when they first got
there."
Another 40 volunteers tidied the trails at the Stough Canyon
Nature Center as part of events Saturday that included a hike and
displays of reptiles and frogs native to the area.
Cheryl Anglim's 5-year-old son, Jacob, was fascinated by the
tables of plants and snakes, and learned the names of unfamiliar
ones, Anglim said.
"We love the nature center," Anglim said. "Any event [they have],
we try to attend."
The event, like others run by the city, strengthens residents'
ties to Burbank while giving people a chance to discover new
information, Mayor David Laurell said.
"Burbank has always been a city with a tremendous sense of
community," Laurell said. "When it comes to celebrating or learning
about different events, the city enjoys coming together."
