A suspicious object found one mile east of the Burbank-Glendale-
Pasadena Airport shut down traffic and MetroLink trains for more than
two hours Friday afternoon, but was determined to be inert by the Los
Angeles County Sheriff's Bomb Squad.
A driver reported a suspicious object in the intersection of
Vanowen and Buena Vista streets about 3:30 p.m., Burbank Police Sgt.
William Berry said. Berry said he had no information on what made the
object appear suspicious.
About 6 p.m., the bomb squad determined the object was of a
non-explosive design, Berry said. While officers continued to
investigate the incident, traffic and trains were allowed through the
area, he said.
Officers shut down the Ventura County MetroLink line and evacuated
about 10 homes. Three northbound trains and one southbound train were
affected by the closure, Metrolink spokeswoman Sharon Gavin said.
While the rails were closed, passengers were shuttled by bus from the
Burbank MetroLink station to the airport's station, where they
boarded waiting trains to go to Ventura County, she said.
