University officials made a group decision in selecting the
popular Burbank husband and wife, said James Dean, vice president for
"Susan and Larry Stamper have made very important contributions to
Burbank and our citizens," Dean said. "They have helped Burbank to
move forward, and have helped shape the lives of our citizens and of
The university will honor the Stampers on Oct. 19 at a campus
Larry Stamper is pastor of Burbank First United Methodist Church.
A member of the Burbank Community Hospital Foundation, he serves on
the board of directors of Wesley Homes, an organization sponsored by
the United Methodist Church.
In addition to being a spiritual leader, Stamper has served in the
political arena. He is a former Burbank city councilman and served as
mayor. Stamper was chaplain for the Burbank Police Department for 14
years, and in 1992 he received an honorary doctorate of letters from
Sue Stamper is active in United Methodist Women, National Charity
League, Burbank Sister City Committee, San Fernando Valley Girl
Scouts, and Noon Rotary.
A talented musician, she plays the violin, piano and organ. She is
also a vocalist who sings at weddings, memorial services and other
The Stampers have been married for 47 years. They have three
children and six grandchildren. Daughter Judie Sarquiz is management
services director for the city of Burbank.
