Tons of heavy metal, chrome and rubber will be on display at Johnny
Carson Park on Sunday when the Arrowhead Booster Club sponsors its
16th annual car show to benefit the varsity, junior varsity and
freshman football programs at John Burroughs High School.
Classic stock, modified and fully restored cars will be shown,
along with souped-up trucks and chrome-covered motorcycles. Judges
will hand out awards in more than 20 categories, including best paint
job, best engine and best interior.
Last year's event netted $7,000, car show chairman Donn Nay said.
"We're obviously hoping to do that good this year," he said.
Burbank Kiwanis for Fun will sell pancakes for breakfast and
hamburgers for lunch, Nay said. The freshman football team will
provide baked goods. Kettle corn and shaved ice will also be sold.
A band performing soft rock from the 1960s and '70s will perform
throughout the day.
The event is free to the public, but there is a $25 registration
fee to enter a car, and all entrants must arrive between 7 and 9 a.m.
Sunday, Nay said.
