Zonta Club teddy bear project helps children

The Zonta Club of Burbank Area has several projects they are

working on.

Every year the Zonta donates teddy bears to the Burbank Police

Department. Officers keep the bears in their squad cars and give them

to children who are faced with trauma. A frightened child receives a

lot of comfort by holding a soft and cuddly teddy bear.

This spring, the club will once again award scholarships to high

school seniors who are planning to continue their education. The

process of selecting who will be awarded is always a tough process,

as there are many remarkable candidates in the Burbank area.

This year, members are increasing the number of scholarships

presented from two to five. The group raises funds for scholarships

through its annual Woman of the Year luncheon. The club's main

fundraiser, Burbank's Woman of the Year, honors a woman who has made

a true difference to the community and even the nation.

Margarita Campos, Burbank's city clerk, was initiated into Zonta

in December.

If you would like to offer a few hours of your time every month

for service to the community, region, country and the world, call

846-1927 or e-mail www.zontaburbank.org.

Boys & Girls Club benefits from lunch

Chipotle Mexican Grill will donate 50% of proceeds from a luncheon

Thursday to the Boys & Girls Club's Summer Camp Fund.

Chipotle Mexican Grill is celebrating its grand opening with the

benefit from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the new Burbank location, 135 E.

Palm Ave. The restaurant is the home of gourmet burritos and tacos.

The Boys and Girls Club provides affordable after-school and

summer services covering a wide range of programs to children ages 7

to 17.

The funds raised at the luncheon will allow 30 to 60 children to

experience a fun-filled week of activities including fishing,

horseback riding, crafts, swimming and hiking at Pathfinder Ranch

near Idyllwild.

Chipotle is in the Burbank Entertainment Village, next to the AMC

Burbank 16.
