Library accepting contest photos

BURBANK -- Amateur photographers of all ages are invited to submit

their work for a contest sponsored by the Friends of the Burbank

Public Library. The categories are special effects, people, animals,

scenic images and still life. Up to three entries can be submitted

for judging by a panel of professional photographers.

Entry forms can be picked up at any one of the three Burbank

libraries, and photographs must be submitted by Feb. 17 at the

reference desk of the Central Library, 110 N. Glenoaks Blvd.

Winners in each category will receive $25, and the Best of Show

winner will receive an additional $50. An awards ceremony is

scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Central Library, where an

exhibit of the work will hang inside until March 27.

Teen comic art accepted for contest

BURBANK -- Teenagers are invited to submit their original art for

a competition to have their work appear on Burbank Public Library

bookmarks.

Burbank youth 12 to 17 are required to submit artwork styled as

comic books or manga -- Japanese graphic novels -- by Feb. 29 at the

front desk of the Central Library, 110 N. Glenoaks Blvd.

Book and art store gift certificates totaling $180 will be awarded

to finalists. The overall winner's artwork will go on library

bookmarks that are given away to the public, as well as the cover of

the Central Library's art book list.
