Firefighters douse store blaze

February 14, 2004

About 50 Burbank firefighters, helped by six from Glendale, battled a

two-alarm fire at a Burbank health foods store that caused about

$150,000 in damage, authorities said. The blaze started at 11:05 p.m.

Tuesday near the second-floor break room of Full O' Life Foods at

2515 Magnolia Blvd., Burbank Fire Capt. Ron Bell said. The first

company of Burbank firefighters responded about three minutes later

and, with the help of firefighters from the Glendale Fire Department,

extinguished the flames by 11:35 p.m., Bell said. The fire, which

fire officials said was caused by an undetermined electrical source,

damaged the break room, burned through the roof and torched store

merchandise, Bell said. No one was injured, he added. "The fire could

have easily gone the other direction and we could have lost the

building," Bell said. "But our performance was textbook -- quick

responses and aggressive interior firefighting." Glendale

firefighters, in addition to responding to the scene, watched over

Burbank fire stations, he said. Pasadena firefighters also covered

the stations.
