Police seek suspects from stabbing

SOUTH SAN FERNANDO DISTRICT -- Burbank Police were asking the

public for help tracking down the men involved in a fight that led to

the stabbing of two Burbank men during a birthday party over the

weekend.

James Padilla, 19, was stabbed three times -- twice in the back

and once near the liver -- and Alan West, 19, suffered a cut in the

stomach at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday at a residence in the 200 block of

West Valencia Avenue, Burbank Police Sgt. Jay Jette said.

No one has been arrested, Jette said, adding that investigators

don't believe the incident was gang-related.

"Apparently, some uninvited guests tried to interrupt the party,"

he said. "A verbal confrontation ensued, and it escalated into a fist

fight, which led to the two men being stabbed."

Padilla was taken to County-USC Medical Center, and has improved

from critical condition, police said. Hospital representatives did

not return calls late Tuesday.

West was taken by a friend to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center

following the melee, police said. But Providence spokesman Dan Boyle

said the hospital had no record of West being treated there.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked

to call Det. Darin Ryburn at 238-3246.
