Award ceremony to honor former mayor

MEDIA CITY CENTER -- Councilwoman Stacey Murphy will receive the

inaugural 2004 Community Spotlight Award, a new recognition honoring

those who are exceptionally committed to the city.

The ceremony will honor Murphy, also a former mayor, at 6 p.m.

Wednesday at the Colony Theater, 555 N. 3rd St. The event will also

include a reception catered by P.F. Chang's China Bistro and a

performance of scenes from the theater's production of "Around the

World in 80 Days."

The event, hosted by Cusumano Real Estate Group, will be sponsored

by the city and theater. Ticket prices range from $100 to $1,000.

Stough celebrates Native Americans

HILLSIDE DISTRICT -- Stough Canyon Nature Center will host an

event celebrating Native American heritage, specifically in the

Verdugo Mountains and Los Angeles area.

The free event, sponsored by the city's Park, Recreation and

Community Services Department, is from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at the

center, 2300 Walnut Ave.

Musician John Sherman will play inspirational music on a Native

American flute and recite poetry meant to connect listeners with

nature. The event will also feature Native American foods, music and

games.
