President Sharon Ranshaw and her executive officers greeted guests
and the evening's chairwomen were introduced. They were Sharon
Terranova, centerpieces; Marjorie Overstreet, decorations; Lynne
Meares, invitations; Marilyn Teasley, donations; Judy Gragg, program;
Charlene Dettmann, reservations; Elaine Thomas, thank-you's; Linda
Hansen, tickets; Mary Jo Hjelmstrom, special drawing; and Lisa
Murray, entertainment.
Following the feast of lobster thermidor and chicken breast with
Chardonnay cream sauce was a creative offering of special peach
mousse dessert.
Music was by We the People, and a special attraction was an
artistic dance interpretation and salsa instruction by the Dance
Doctor.
Students honored for community service
Six students were recognized at a May meeting of the Beta Epsilon
Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.
Students were introduced and given certificates and $100 checks in
recognition for their community service.
They were Bernie Becerra, Monterey High School; Irene Vega,
Burbank Adult School; Thomas Boucher, Providence High School; Ashley
Walden, Bellarmine-Jefferson High School; Jasma Wise, John Burroughs
High School; and Megan Winters, Burbank High School.
Also honored were Veronica Borboa and Jaclyn Hofman, who received
$500 grants to further their education. One of the society's purposes
is to endow scholarships and grant fellowships to women educators.
The new slate of officers was installed at a June breakfast buffet
meeting at the Tam O'Shanter Restaurant. They are Co-presidents Pam
Allender and Linda Beaumaster, First Vice Presidents Susan Stone and
Martha Hankins, Second Vice President Diana Wong, Recording Secretary
Jackie Dwight, and Corresponding Secretary Linda Wolfe.
Cabrini Literary Guild installs officers
The Cabrini Literary Guild installed officers during its final
meeting of the year at the Oakmont Country Club in Glendale.
They are President Carmen McClelland, First Vice President Anne
Herrmann; Second Vice President Marie Urrutia, Recording Secretary
Joan Hutton and Treasurer Marjorie Shannon.
Terry Campbell, philanthropy chairwoman, presented checks to the
following charities: Catholic Charities Loaves and Fishes- Glendale;
Catholic Youth Organization Youth Services-Glendale; Salvation Army
Meals on Wheels-Glendale; Good Shepherd Center for Women; Shield of
Roses; Glendale YWCA Shelter for Women; Glendale Public Library
Literacy Program; Burbank Public Library Literacy Program; Glendale
Community Foundation; and Southern California Renewal Communities.
The checks presented were raised by the Cabrini annual fundraiser.
The guild will resume meetings with a September membership tea.
