Garden club sponsors wreath workshop

The Burbank Valley Garden Club will sponsor its "Succulent Wreath

Workshop" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 20 at the Verdugo Park Assembly

Building, 700 N. California St.

Members and guests will participate in a hands-on workshop and

create a magnificent Christmas decoration, conducted by Jean

Askeland, member and third vice president.

Donation is $20. Coffee and cakes will be provided. For more

The club is a member of California Garden Clubs, Inc. and National

Garden Clubs, Inc.

Author visits business women's meeting

Award-wining author Carolyn Howard-Johnson will speak to the

Verdugo Glen Chapter of the American Business Women's Assn. at its

meeting Wednesday at the Hill Street Cafe, 3301 N. Glenoaks Blvd.,

Burbank.

Her topic is "Finding the Joy in Writing: Overcoming the Barriers

of Time, Place and Culture." Networking is at 6 p.m., dinner, program

and business meeting follow at 6:30.

Her first novel, "This Is the Place," and her book of creative

nonfiction, "Harkening: A Collection of Stories Remembered," have won

awards. The cost of the dinner is $17. For information and

Members gather for Oktoberfest meeting

Glendale Area Council of Beta Sigma Phi had its annual Oktoberfest

at the Elks Lodge in Glendale. An authentic German dinner of

Bratwurst, red cabbage and scalloped potatoes was served.

After the dinner, members and guests were entertained by Michael

Caldis singer/musician, who kept members moving with line dancing and

sing-a-longs. President Grace Mylroie-Patz of Burbank introduced

chairwoman Benetta Parsons, who thanked her committee for making the

evening such a success.
