Salvation Army rings in the season

November 20, 2004

BURBANK--The Salvation Army, Burbank Corps, will kick off its annual

"Red Kettle Drive" starting today throughout the city.

The ringing of the bell and the traditional red kettles have been

a part of the holiday season all over the world.

"We need desperately to find more locations to place our kettles

and volunteers to stand there for a few hours," said Capt. Moy

Hernandez, administrator of the Burbank Corps. "These donations, and

others, are what enable the Salvation Army to provide the many

services to needy families throughout the year."

Each year the organization provides a Thanksgiving dinner to more

than 300 members of the community. The needy may also get breakfast

and lunch there Tuesdays through Fridays.

The Salvation Army also provides social services such as rent and

utility payment assistance, food boxes, and toys for more than 325

families in Burbank, North Hollywood and the Sun Valley area through

the Christmas "Angel Tree" Program.

Vons, Pavilions, Sav-on, Albertsons, K-Mart and Fry's Electronics

have authorized the Army to raise funds at their locations, but since

they cannot solicit donations in front of Target stores this year the

need is greater, Hernandez said.

The Army will have its 18th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner

on Wednesday with two seatings, at 5 and 7 p.m.

There is no charge for the complete Thanksgiving dinner but each

family member must have a ticket.

For tickets or more infor- mation call the corps office at

845-7214, or to make a donation, make checks payable to the Salvation

Army, Burbank Corps and send them to P.O. Box 4040, Burbank, CA,

91503.
