its 2003 journalist of the year to managing editor of the Glendale

"I love a new challenge, and I look forward to helping the

Glendale News-Press and the Burbank Leader be the strongest community

papers in Southern California," Goulet said.

Goulet started with Times Community News as the education reporter

at the Daily Pilot in Costa Mesa in 1999. She was promoted to city

editor of the Huntington Beach Independent in 2001 and city editor of

both the Independent and the Daily Pilot in 2003. During her four

years at the helm of the Daily Pilot's city desk, the newspaper won

11 California Newspaper Publisher's Assn. awards.

"I have been continually impressed with Danette's abilities as a

writer and editor," said Tony Dodero, the editor of the Daily Pilot

and editorial director of Times Community News. "I am convinced that

the readers and staff of the Glendale News-Press and Burbank Leader

will be happy with the strong work ethic, news judgment and

professionalism she will bring to her new assignment."

Goulet, from Concord, Mass., will oversee all editorial aspects of

the Glendale-based publications, including the city, sports, photo,

copy and design desks. Goulet received a degree in English and

communications at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn.

"Our goal is to publish the best community newspapers in

California," said Will Fleet, publisher of the three papers. "We are

fortunate to have someone of Danette's caliber to help us reach that

level."

The News-Press and Foothill Leader are daily newspapers, and the

Burbank Leader is a twice-weekly newspaper.
