A 59-year-old Burbank man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of

fatally stabbing his mother in their home, police said.

Police arrested Michael Beauregard shortly after his 86-year-old

mother, Cora Beauregard, was found stabbed to death in their home in

the 2100 block of Rose Street Thursday night.

A 911 call from inside the home brought officers to the one-story

house just before 6 p.m., Burbank Police spokesman Sgt. Jay Jette

said. Cora Beauregard was pronounced dead at the scene, Jette said.

Police could provide only sketchy information on the slaying.

Michael Beauregard, who police and neighbors said was unemployed,

is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned

Tuesday in Burbank Municipal Court.

Neighbors had kind words to say about both mother and son.

"She was a sweet lady," said Gloria Garcia, a neighbor from across

the street. "She always would wave and said hello when she was

outside. [Michael] would wave, too, but I didn't really talk to him

that much."

The kind words were not reserved for the elder Beauregard.

"We just saw him at Christmas and gave him a present and he was

really nice," neighbor Roberta Beer said.

Rose Street neighbors were stunned by the slaying. They say the

quiet is only broken by jets taking off from nearby Bob Hope Airport.

Cora Beauregard was among a number of long-time residents who

stayed in the neighborhood and had lived there for at least 40 years,

neighbors said.

"This has been a wonderful neighborhood and everyone watches out

for each other," Laura Anderson said. "We were very surprised. It's

definitely a shock."
