More importantly, Oganyan is working to strengthen the program and get more people involved and interested in Burroughs basketball.

She has initiated the Red Pride Club to help benefit her team. Members of the club make a donation and they receive benefits like newsletters, T-shirts and other gear, free admission to games and the chance to win prizes.

The club packages are $50, $75, $100 and $150.

In addition to the club, the program is also accepting free-throw pledges, electronic message requests at games and flat donations.

Providence, Bell-Jeff have their rivalry

When people think of local city rivalries, usually the battle between Burbank and Burroughs highs comes to mind.

However, although it isn't as highly touted as the clash between the Bulldogs and Indians, Providence (558 students) and Bellarmine-Jefferson (375 students) have their own rivalry.

It's known as the Catholic school rivalry.

This weekend, the rivalry heats up as the Pioneers and Guards go at it in basketball and soccer.

Today, the teams will play in girls' soccer, boys' basketball and girls' basketball. The rivalry weekend actually began Friday when the Providence and Bell-Jeff boys' soccer teams played in a nonleague game.

Through sometimes rivalries can be heated affairs, the competition between the Pioneers and Guards usually always friendly.
