Town hall meeting to focus on Patriot Act

The Burbank Neighbors for Peace and Justice will be tackling the Patriot Act this at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Chris Carson from the League of Women Voters and Jim Lafferty from the National Lawyers Guild will be giving speeches on the legislation. Community members are encouraged to come, ask questions and voice their opinions.

The town-hall style meeting will be held in room 2 at McCambridge Park, 1515 N. Glenoaks Blvd.

Temporary Aid Center seeks sponsors

The Burbank Temporary Aid Center is seeking sponsorships for its glass donor wall at its new facility scheduled to open in March.

For a donation ranging from $250 to $10,000, the donor will be memorialized on the wall at the new facility at 1304 Burbank Blvd.

The center will also host its 3rd annual Gala Dinner on March 3.

Mayor Jef Vander Borght and former Mayor Michael Hastings will be honored that evening with the Burbank's Top Award for Citizenship.

Burbank Temporary Aid Center assists the homeless and working poor with food, vouchers, showers, washers and dryers.

Hospital looking for blood donors

January is national blood donor month, and Providence St. Joseph Medical Center is looking for donors to replenish is blood supply.

Eligible donors must be in good health, at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds.
