Indians place second in event

Burroughs in Palmdale Tournament: The Indians had a fine showing in the event Monday, shooting a team total of 395 to place second in the match at Crystalaire Country Club.

Foothill League opponent Valencia won the tournament with a 386.

Chase Dontanville paced Burroughs, firing a 79 to finish fifth. Teammate Jeff Looby carded a 75 to finish seventh and Mitch Johnson shot a 76 to finish 13th.

The Indians also received 85s from Sang Lee and Peter Romero.

SOFTBALL

Burroughs 2, Canyon 1: A run in the ninth inning Tuesday gave the Indians a Foothill League win at Canyon.

Kerry Hodgins ? who also had a double ? and Melanie Shelton drove in runs for Burroughs (12-8, 3-4 in league).

Burroughs in Simi Valley Tournament: The Indians went 1-1 Saturday in the event.

In the first game, Burroughs defeated Oxnard Pacifica, 3-2.

Burroughs scored its three runs in the fourth inning. Katie White and Sam Valenzuela had the Indians' only two hits.

In the second game, the Indians fell to Oxnard, 11-7.

Burroughs 3, Hart 2: The Indians scored three runs in the second inning Thursday to earn the Foothill League victory at Olive Park.

Pitcher Sara Budrick went the distance, tossing a four-hitter and striking out two.

Kimmi White was two for three and Melanie Shelton drove in three runs for Burroughs.

Providence 12, Oakwood 0: The Pioneers remained undefeated and in first place in the Liberty League with a win Tuesday at Oakwood.

Danielle Austin led Providence (9-4, 4-0), going two for four with a triple, double, two runs scored and three runs batted in. Teammate Lauren Suedkamp was four for four with a double and two RBI and Rachael Bruner was two for three with two RBI.

Providence 12, Flintridge Prep 7: The Pioneers hammered out 14 hits Friday to win the nonleague game on the road.

Lauren Suedkamp paced the Providence offensive charge, going four for five with two runs batted in. Teammate Cassandra Lohman was two for two with four runs scored, Karina Ford was two for three with two runs batted in and Danielle Austin was three for five with two RBI and two runs scored.

The Pioneers stole 16 bases in 16 attempts, with Lohman leading the way with four and Suedkamp swiping three.

In the circle, Sarah Biggs went the distance, striking out five.

BASEBALL

Providence 8, Yeshiva 7: The Pioneers pushed across five runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the Liberty League game on the road Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader..
