Chamber to host connection luncheon

The Burbank Chamber of Commerce will host a Business Connection Luncheon Thursday at the Castaway at 1250 Harvard Road in Burbank. The event is part of the Leadership Burbank program, which provides a 10-month training forum for Burbank leaders and business professionals to enhance their leadership skills.

Twin Publishing will sponsor the lunch, which begins at noon. Twin publishes a weekly newspaper called "Tidbits," which is directed to a broad readership, from school children to business professionals.

Chamber members without tickets who are interested in attending the lunch can still purchase tickets for $24. Remaining tickets for non-members are $29.

Water District offer sprinker exchange

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is offering "smart" sprinkler controllers to Burbank residents who want to trade out their old devices.

The new smart controller measures the environmental conditions of a garden or residential landscape and adjusts the watering schedule accordingly, said Andy Hui, who manages Metropolitan's regional water efficiency programs.

Studies of homes using smart controllers showed a 10% savings on overall daily water usage, he said.

Metropolitan will exchange 500 controllers 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Descanso Gardens, 418 Descanso Drive in La Canada-Flintridge.

To qualify, interested residents must call (866) 648-2925 for a reservation, and bring their old sprinkler controller and a copy of a previous water bill with them to their appointment.
