Fires contained

on Fourth

The Burbank Fire Department put out two small brush fires sparked during the fireworks display at the Starlight Bowl on Tuesday.

A fireworks shell that was intended to launch hundreds of feet into the air misfired, shooting about 50 feet and igniting a small area beneath the Bowl, Burbank Fire Capt. Ron Bell said.

These types of fires occur regularly during fireworks displays at the Starlight Bowl and the department always plans for them accordingly, he said.

"We're well prepared for this little spot fires," Capt. Ron Bell said. "They happen every year."

Before the show on Tuesday, the department cleared away some stray brush in the area, treating other areas with water and foam.

The department also followed weather reports, which indicated no danger of high winds.
