MAGNOLIA PARK DISTRICT ? A 3-year-old girl from Sun Valley was killed on Saturday after a dressing room mirror came crashing down on her at the Sears department store on Magnolia Boulevard, authorities said.

Maria Rocha was standing in a dressing room while shopping with her mother and grandmother shortly after noon when the full-length mirror suddenly became unhinged from the wall and toppled onto the girl's head, Burbank Police Sgt. Kevin Grandalski said.

She was rushed to Los Angeles Childrens Hospital, where she was pronounced dead as a result of severe head trauma, Grandalski said.

Since a Police Department investigation determined that the death was an accident, Burbank Police will no longer pursue the case, Grandalski said.

Corporate officials at Sears will conduct an independent investigation, spokesman Chris Brathwaite said.

"It's a tragic accident and we're still looking into how and why it happened," Brathwaite said. "Our thoughts are with the girl's family. This is a very tragic accident and we have attempted to reach out to the family but we are respecting their need for privacy at this time."

Mark Irribarren, a manager at the Burbank store, declined to comment.

"The safety of our customers is absolutely a top priority and we take this situations very seriously," Brathwaite said. "This has touched our associates deeply ? it's very tragic."
