Burbank City Council Meeting Wrap-up

DEBT REPAYMENT

The council approved an ordinance on Tuesday to extend debt-repayment deadlines for redevelopment projects in the Golden State, City Centre and West Olive areas of Burbank. This modification of the redevelopment agency's plans is an attempt to mitigate the financial impacts of state legislation that requires agencies to make payments to the county auditor to reduce the state's education-budget shortfall.

WHAT IT MEANS

The resolution gives the redevelopment agency an extra year to complete its projects, collect taxes and repay debt accumulated through project costs.

NATURAL GAS STATION

The council unanimously approved a resolution that will allow the city manager to accept a $287,000 grant through the South Coast Air Quality Management District and apply it to the construction of a time-fill compressed natural-gas fueling station.

Slated to be built in the city yard, the station will allow trucks to refuel during the night in the yard, rather than having to fuel at a city-owned station that is open to the public.

WHAT IT MEANS

The council already appropriated $400,000 from the 2005-06 budget for the design and construction of the station. The grant, which will be paid to the city on completion of the project, will offset some of the project costs.
